Mass mortality of pen shell Atrina maura (Bivalvia: Pinnidae) due to abrupt population increase of tunicate (Distaplia sp.) in a subtropical bay, Mexico

چکیده
The present study analyses the coverage of epibiont Distaplia cf. stylifera (Ascidiacea: Holozoidae) and five environmental variables (Sal, SST, DO, sea surface Chl-a concentration pH) as potential factors to explain a mass mortality event in restored population pen shell Atrina maura (Bivalvia: Pinnidae) subtropical bay Gulf California, Mexico. Annual autumn surveys 2015, 2016 2017 (Nov–Dec) an additional summer survey (Jun) showed that tunicate was first observed at low densities few sampling sites during 2015 rapidly expanded along banks 2016. Tunicate manual removal carried out two small areas Sep-Nov Jan–Mar 2017. mortalities A. detected resulted high economic loss for regional fishers. A Generalised additive model (GAM) indicated substrate provided by only significant factor associated rapid expansion (measured proportion coverage) D. stylifera. Paradoxically, recovery success increased availability epibiont, facilitating abrupt fast colonisation process on banks, resulting events Our predicts effects begin occur when density is > 47 inds./250 m2. second GAM demonstrated main driver ascidian coverage, salinity, SST DO were secondary factors. We concluded dead increases >8%, salinity >37.3 PSU, <26.9 °C 5.06 mg O2/L. Early harvesting decrease signs growth can avoid losses future.

Novel polymorphic microsatellite markers isolated from the pen shell Atrina pectinata (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Pinnidae).
In this study, we isolated 21 novel polymorphic microsatellite DNA loci from the pen shell Atrina pectinata using magnetic-bead hybridization enrichment. The characteristics of these loci were tested using a population of 30 individuals collected from the Penglai coast, Shandong Province. The number of alleles ranged from 2 to 13, and polymorphism information content (PIC) varied from 0.1730 to...
متن کاملPolaribacter atrinae sp. nov., isolated from the intestine of a comb pen shell, Atrina pectinata.
A novel Gram-staining-negative, aerobic, non-motile, yellow-to-orange carotenoid-type-pigmented and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain WP25T, was isolated from the intestine of a comb pen shell, Atrina pectinata, which was collected from the South Sea near Yeosu in Korea. The isolate grew optimally at 20 °C, at pH 7 and with 2% (w/v) NaCl. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain...
متن کاملEndozoicomonas atrinae sp. nov., isolated from the intestine of a comb pen shell Atrina pectinata.
A novel bacterium, designated strain WP70(T), was isolated from the gut of a comb pen shell (Atrina pectinata) collected from the southern sea of Yeosu in Korea. The isolate was Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain WP70(T) belonged to the genus Endozoicomonas. The highest level of sequence similarit...
متن کاملsecuritization of mortality risks in life annuities
insurers have in the past few decades faced longevity risks - the risk that annuitants survive more than expected - and therefore need a new approach to manage this new risk. in this dissertation we survey methods that hedge longevity risks. these methods use securitization to manage risk, so using modern financial and insurance pricing models, especially wang transform and actuarial concepts, ...
